Men's Basketball

Grambling State University at St. Louis University 17 December 2003
SLU (4-3) used a multitude of turnovers to overpower visiting Grambling State University (2-6) 73-35 at the Savvis Center (reported attendance, 7,891, a visibly small pre-holiday and pre-new SLU sports arena groundbreaking announcement crowd). After playing another first-half of deliberate half-court basketball, SLU was given a series of gifts in the form of turnovers (15 by the Tigers in the first half) that transformed what appeared to be a close two-point game into a commanding 43-16 halftime lead. SLU's first-half attack was spearheaded by junior foward Izik Ohanon (10 pts), senior guard Josh Fisher (9 pts), and senior forward Ross Varner (9 pts). The second half saw the Billikens extend their lead with Ohanon scoring a career-high 21 points, junior guard Reggie Bryan contributing 14 points, and Fisher finishing with 11 total points. SLU shot 55% from the field (64% from 3-pt range) and 86% from the charity line. Grambling State was led by senior forward Paul Haynes (13 pts, 7 rebounds). The Tigers shot 33% from the field (8% from 3-pt range) and 44% from the charity line. SLU and GSU were even on the boards (28-27), but SLU committed fewer turnovers (13-21) and had more steals (11-6).

SLU senior guard Josh Fisher (4) drives inside for a basket. Fisher finished with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals.

Billikens junior guard Reggie Bryant (21) contributed 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

SLU junior forward Izik Ohanon (30) made a number of strong inside moves during the game. Ohanon scored a game- and career-high 21 points to go with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 blocked shot.
