SIUC (8-18, 5-12) took a close game from lowly Illinois State University (6-20, 3-15) before a sparse crowd (365 reported attendance including many season-ticket-holder no-shows) in the SIU arena. The Salukis built a comfortable 25-16 halftime margin, but squandered the lead to trail 30-32 at the 10:27 mark of the second half. SIU managed to hold on and pull out a 49-47 victory and send the Redbirds even closer to the MVC basement.

SIU senior center Melaniece Bardley (34) led the team with 11 points and added 3 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.

Illinois State University sophomore Kellie Johnson (40) led all scorers with 17 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal, in 38 minutes of action.

After starting strong with 9 points and 4 rebounds in 13 minutes, Saluki junior forward Kristine Abramowski (55) was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Saluki sophomore forward Geshla Woodard (33) scored 7 points and collected 2 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

Redbird junior center JoAnna Stuekle (45) chipped in 10 points along with 4 rebounds.

Saluki junior guard Terica Hathway (22) helped to build the first-half lead and contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals to the victory.
